True Story: How The Sodexo Foundation Inspired Summit Group in the Fight against Childhood Hunger

Right_pantoneDid you know that 50 million people are at risk of hunger across the United States, including more than 16 million children?  Fortunately, organizations like The Sodexo Foundation are committed to ending childhood hunger in America with their STOP Hunger program. This program mobilizes entire Sodexo communities, including employees, consumers, clients and suppliers to join forces to make a difference.   Since its inception in 1999, Sodexo Foundation has made nearly $20 million in grants to end childhood hunger.  SHGR_LOGO_Init_CMYK

Summit Group has the distinct pleasure in partnering with Sodexo to support the Foundation and its causes.  Summit’s Director of National Accounts, Tom Murphy, and Senior Account Manager, Donna Urbanski, have provided things like t-shirts for their food pantry servathons, backpacks for their summer lunch programs and awards for their partners and donors.  Additionally, Summit has supported The Sodexo Foundation’s annual dinner for the past four years which has inspired us to create a company-wide initiative to help those in need in our own communities.

In November 2013, Director of Human Resources, Dana Bernard, worked with Linda Girard and Diana Young in two of our main offices in Itasca, IL and Atlanta, GA to select local organizations to help support with food donations.  The Itasca Food Pantry and M.U.S.T Ministries were both chosen because of their commitment to honesty and integrity in their service and willingness to help those in need.  With a participation rate of almost 100%, Summit donated 433 lbs of canned/boxed food items, with an additional 300 lbs of Barilla Pasta given to M.U.S.T Ministries.

On top of these efforts, Summit also offered a dress down day to our associates who provided a cash donation.  The $400 that was raised benefited both The Itasca Food Pantry as well as the Red Cross Illinois Tornado Disaster Relief Fund.  Other associates also volunteered their personal time at local food banks before Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Our Washington DC office will hold their food drive in the spring of 2014 and it will now be an annual corporate wide event for Summit Group.
